We’ve received a lot of calls and emails lately from our readers asking why whey protein products are going up in price?

In speaking with our extensive industry contacts throughout the supplement supply chain, we’ve been hearing that the price of whey from dairies to protein supplement companies has risen between 40-55% in the last 18 months.

Whey is going up in price to the companies and, although companies are absorbing some of this due to the competitiveness of the protein industry, consumers are starting to see and will continue to see rises in the costs of their whey. The reasons for the increase in price are numerous:

1. Demand for whey is higher than ever driven by the explosion of industry in the Far East with a change in their diet; 2. More mothers worldwide are now using baby formulas rather than breast milk for their new-borns. 3. Poor weather conditions, particularly in Australia and New Zealand, two of the biggest producers, have also meant output is very low. 4: The January UK VAT increase from 17.5% to 20% has had a bearing on the cost too. Although whey itself is not VATable, the container, label, packaging and carriage does have VAT added, and either the supplement company or the consumer has had to absorb this cost.

In very basis economic terms, when demand far exceeds supply, prices go up

So, for the consumer, this means that our supplement budgets may have to increase unless we can find alternative ways of adding protein to our diets. If money is tight, perhaps try protein supplements based on other protein powders like casein, soya, pea, egg, wheat, beef, etc, which may be far more economic choices as there has been less volatility in these prices.

נראלי שיש לך טעות בגיינר של סאן , לדעתי התכוונת ל9 מנות וקופסא של 2.3 קילו .. ולא 20 מנות ואריזה של 4.6 קילו , אם זה ה4.6 במחיר הזה אני אשמח לשמוע איפה קונים ...

יש טעות בחישוב של המחיר לגרם חלבון באבקה של דיימטייז,
רשום 0.205 ש"ח לגרם חלבון
אבל זה בעצם 0.215 ש"ח
