@Ori.S

I'm quite astonished by the fact that so many ppl "tried" to explain what their purpose was, while noone actually did. Some came close, but skipped certain steps.

In a nutshell:

Your body will always automatically go into the position that is the most biomechanically efficient. For example, if you deadlift, you will see people shoot their hips up (knee extension) at the very beginning of the movement, why do they do this? They do it becaus their body knows their hamstrings and glutes are disproportionately stronger than their quads so their body automatically goes into a position in which it can use the glutes/hams more than the quads.
The same thing is happening during the squat, but with different muscles.
Your hip adductors (the muscle everyone here are talking about) help in hip extension, i.e increasing the angle between your thighs and torso. That's basically what you do in a squat, you increase the angle untill it's 180 degrees, which is the position in which u r standing straight up and down.
If your hip adductors are disproportionately weaker than say, ur quads or some other muscle that helps (indirectly) with hip extension, then your body will remove that muscle from the equation. How does your body remove the hip adductors from the equation?
It let's your knees cave in, now that muscle group cannot produce any sort of force, as the adduction is already finished. Now your body is in a more biomechanically efficient postion, it doesn't have to use your weak hip adductors to extend your hips, it can use stronger muscles like for example your quads, which are now in a better position.

You could have found this information by googling for 1min instead of arguing with people that obviously don't want to give you a full answer.
from the SS forum: "Imagine if someone cut your adductors. How would you stand up? You would have to have your knees in so your quads could do the work that your adductors would have done in hip extension."..

Hope this helps and if I'm wrong, please someone correct me, we are all here to learn afterall.

and @PowerLifting I won't argue that letting your knees cave in a little during a heavy squat can be done consciously thus making it a "technique", but that's not what's happening here. Your lifter OBVIOUSLY has muscle imbalances that cause him to do it. If you want to argue with me and say that "no he doesn't, it's how the technique is done" then go to Youtube and watch professional Olympic Weightlifters squat, yes, they do let their knees cave, but it looks completely different from what your lifter is doing.
But the bigger issue is that even if this was how your lifter wanted to lift, then he'd end up with very weak muscles in certain areas which isn't good. He won't get overall muscle development, he will be the equivelant to a bodybuilder that does leg extensions instead of squats. Sure he get's big legs, but they are not stable.
Correct your lifter's form, make him force his knees out during 5RMs and let him do whatever he wants to do while doing a 1RM, but having his knees cave in to that extent will only create bigger muscle imbalances. Chances are that when he goes for an all time 1RM, his knees won't only cave, they will completely collapse.
I don't think you are just simply not knowledgable, I think you are saying it's okay, because you want quick results. You want your lifter to see that he is increasing the weights very fast thus giving both you and him a good feeling. He will be impressed by his ability and in turn, you'll look like an amazing coach. But the day he get's a meniscus tear, you won't be viewed as the good coach, you'll be viewed as the selfish one.
So do both you and your lifter a favor and fix his technique.

Good luck to u both!

not sure if u r making fun of me that I'm talking without any evidence of knowing how to do things myself, or if u think I know how to lift.
Either way, the guy in the white lab-coat knows more about biomechanics than most ppl here, yet might not even be able to squat more than 60kg 😃

as @Matty said, u can check my log as to whether I'm strong or not, my absolute strength isn't the greatest, but I have decent relative strength.
What about Olympic technique? u mean with the knees caving in?

EDIT: to clarify, I don't wear a white lab-coat, it was just an example of someone who might know in theory but never done anything in practice
